MIL-STD-2301A enhances the CGM capabilities in MIL-STD-2301, Computer Graphics Metafile (CGM) Implementation Standard for the National Imagery Transmission Format Standard, 18 June 1993.  It superseded MIL-STD-2301 on 1 October 1998, coinciding with the date on which MIL-STD-2500B, National Imagery Transmission Format Version 2.1 for the National Imagery Transmission Format Standard, 22 August 1997 superseded MIL-STD-2500A, National Imagery Transmission Format (Version 2.0) for the National Imagery Transmission Format Standard, 12 October 1994.  Use of MIL-STD-2301A is only mandatory for NITF 2.1-compliant files. The BIIF Profile for Computer Graphics Metafile, Ver 01.00, is the functional equivalent of Mil-Std-2301A.
