	MIL-STD-188-196 Bi-Level Image Compression


	Overview:

	MIL-STD-188-196 establishes the requirements to be met by NITFS systems when image data are compressed using the bi-level facsimile compression specified by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee (CCITT) Recommendation T.4 and MIL-STD-188-161C for Group 3 facsimile devices. It provides the technical detail of the NITFS compression algorithm designated by the code C1 in the image compression field of the image subheader for bi-level images or overlays and provides the required run-length code tables for use in NITFS compliant imagery dissemination systems.
